Frequently asked Questions

Are you insured?

Yes I am insured for both Dog Walking and Pet Sitting in clients homes.  This includes Public Liability insurance and Vehicle insurance (including breakdown).  Details can be found in the link on the home page.

There are a number of points such as insurance that will be discussed during our initial meet and greet.

Can you walk my dog today?

If a meet and greet including a trial walk has been carried out, there is every chance I can walk your dog today (subject to availability).

I do stress that for the first few walks this will be on lead, until your dog and I have created a good relationship.  This allows me to understand their behaviours, ability to play nicely and obey commands such as recalling before any group or off lead walks are carried out.  Off-lead walking will require your written agreement.

What is your cancellation policy?

Pet sitting requires a 50% deposit which must be paid no later than one week in advance of the visit commencing.  If in the event that a cancellation is needed, I request 48 hours notice to avoid cancellation charges.

For dog walking, I request 48 hours notice of cancellation to avoid cancellation charges.  If  cancelled on the same day the walk, the fee is payable in full.

Can I arrange ad-hoc walks as I don't need the same days each week?

Yes, we can cater for this by providing access to an online portal for booking requests.

All bookings are subject to availability and a confirmation email will be sent to you confirming your request has been accepted.

Alternatively you can call, WhatsApp, Email or use the contact form below to check availability.

Walks requested are not guaranteed until a confirmation has been provided to you.

What qualifications do you need?

Currently there is no legal requirement to hold any formal qualification to walk dogs, however Pet First Aid is strongly encouraged.  I hold certificates in Animal Care, Pet First Aid, Rabbit Care and an International Diploma in Pet Sitting  and Diploma in Canine Communication.  I will continue to enhance my skills and Continuing Professional Development adding to my skills and ability to further support animals in my care.

What do I need to provide?

For dog walking you should ensure that your dog is microchipped and has a collar/harness with a name tag and your contact details.   Pets must be suitably vaccinated, I will accept evidence of immunity via Titre Testing (within the last 6 months).
I have collars with my contact details when out walking along with a variety of leads, including split leads for dogs who are used to walking with a companion, in addition to long leads for those wanting to explore but recall can be a bit challenging.

For pet sitting arrangements, I ask that you ensure that your pet's regular food is available for the duration of your trip.  If required, I can purchase additional food  (fresh fruit/veg) for small pets, adding this to your end of service invoice.

Can you give medicines to my pet?

With full instructions, I can administer medication to your pets.

What if my pet falls ill or gets injured?

If your pet becomes unwell or is injured, I will contact you and your vet to arrange care if I am concerned about their health.  If necessary, I will take pets to the closest vet in case of an emergency.  I will obtain your contact details , an emergency contact and your vet details during the meet and greet sessions.

I do make sure that owners are aware, particularly in the case of dogs, that pup-play and a good rummage in undergrowth and hedges can result in very minor injuries such as scratches or grazes. If any treatment is required, I will contact you following the walk.   A first aid kit is available in my vehicle if basic treatment is required.

Do you drop dogs home covered in mud or wet?

Being the owner of a spaniel cross, I can understand how frustrating this can be.  I have a "Mud Buddy" for post walk rinses and always towel wet dogs down.  However there is a chance that there is still some dampness when your dog comes home, but I go to great lengths to minimise this.

How do dogs travel for an "all day out walk"?

My van is fully fitted with four secure crates, each have both front and rear access.  The van is air conditioned, well lit in the rear with additional solar powered ventilation.

How far do you travel for an all day out adventure?

I try to provide variety in my walks to ensure that dogs have different stimulation and  that the location is appropriate given the weather conditions.  We have routes in the local area that take us along the shore, woods and heathland, we are spoilt for choice!
